According to the Associated Press, a total of 88 pounds of beluga caviar was confiscated from smugglers. Juri Mantegazza decided to give the delicacy away to the Red Cross, Franciscan Monks, homeless shelters, and other charities that will prepare meals for the needy this holiday season.

The Rev. Massimo Mapelli, who helps run a shelter for the homeless and recovering addicts, will be serving some 22 pounds of Russian beluga caviar this holiday season. That’s 4 1/2 ounces of the salty eggs per person; 2 to 4 times more than is normally served to the wealthy.
